It's playable with other races than the Federation?
We will of course need someone to play as the Federation.
But all the others have tech trees and such, I do not see how they are unplayable?
I vaguely remember playing a hot seat game were I played Feds/klingons/Romulans.
Do not remember anything going wrong!
There are probably some things we will need to work out, such as Obrian and the Wraiths though.

That is very true, I am perhaps being too optimistic.
Right now I can play, but I do not know how long that will be!
To clarify, the computer has had trouble starting up for some weeks, only today it started freezing up (seemingly) randomly.
Can´t bode well when that happens I think.

Have you tried re-installing the operating system from scratch to ensure that isn't the problem?
Mostly.
This is the problem:
It hangs on this mup.sys when I boot in safe mode:
The main reasons for this Windows XP or Win 2000 boot hang or alleged mup.sys issue are:
* Hard disk failure or corruption
* A corrupted registry or registry hive
* New hardware has been installed but not did not completely "Register or re-Register" correctly
* New hardware has been installed but it is faulty or failing
* The new hardware's driver or windows itself has been compromised (Disk data corruption or by a virus) or (rare) needs to be updated
* The power supply is marginal in output or failing (Common per user feedback)
* BIOS\ESCD\Motherboard chipset driver conflict with a component, its driver, or its registry data
* Existing hardware including the motherboard may have failed in a specific way but not catastrophically.
The most likely one is, I am afraid, the power supply is failing.
I even changed hard drives and it still hung on this, but I think the odds both would have failed systems are just tiny.
It must be the hardware.
But there is also one very important thing I forgot, that my sister is moving here soon, perhaps, and she has a laptop I could play on.
So if this comp holds out just a little longer there will be no problem at all.

I hear Iceland's banks have been hit harder by the global recession than most. A lot of councils in Wales (where I live) had invested in Icelandic banks and they lost a lot of money. Still, the worst is mostly behind us now, hopefully!
Yes, in 2007(around the time the banks were opening up in England I think).
They started offering insane interests on money people would put into them.
I, like many others probably, thought how can they possibly do that?
But as history has shown us not enough people were sceptical, and so many people have lost so much, and yet no one has been found responsible!

Yep. The greedy bankers who got us into this mess are probably still in a job and even getting bonuses on the back of the recovery while the hard working taxpayer bails out the banks they helped ruin. Its a crazy world alright!
Mind you, it wouldn't be the first time the British and the Icelandic get into trouble.
Anybody think there is any potential for a civ 2 "Cod Wars" scenario?
