I've been more informative at Realms Beyond about my tech plans. I was avoiding any water techs in order to go for Judaism, but last turn I thought that was stupid and changed my mind. Perhaps my change of mind was foolish and the original plan was good? I'm feeling very indecisive lately.

What does my eagle eye see?

That looks like Holland in the East. And not only that. It looks like his capital. The borders have expanded, and it's roughly 12 tiles away from my original capital. (And by "Holland," I mean "England and Elizabeth." But he seems to like Holland. His cities are all named after the Netherlands. He has three cities, so he likely hasn't expanded in my direction yet.

Do we think barb cities make workers? I'm trying to figure out when that city will grow so I can take it. It's a little scary that I can't remember seeing what tile it was working. No way it's working a citizen specialist at size 1, right?

Attack!

(I immediately offered a peace treaty. I just don't want him promoting the axe and eventually taking the city.) We will see if he forgives me. I have a sense of the personalities of the Realms Beyond players. I sort of know which ones I can get away with pushing and which ones will burn my land to ash because of an insult. Time to find out which kind Holland is.

In the picture above, in the top left corner, you can see SV is about to declare war and enter my borders with a galley. If he wants to explore, why isn't he using a work boat? It's possible that he is a pirate looking for undefended cities. The capital's archer should be able to hold off 2 axes even if they are Combat 1. My western city will only have two spears. Two spears can beat 2 non-amphibious axes if they don't have Combat 1. A galley with 2 axes is a significant investment at this stage of the game. I'm annoyed at the least that this galley will make aspi defend his horse city.

Ziankali is pushing up with an axe.

I sent him a wheat for wheat trade. I don't know the diplomacy language here. Back home this would mean "let's be friends, please." He might just be moving the unit up to get vision on some tiles he can't see. On the other hand, he might want the free 2xp for killing my warrior.

I hope Ziankali hasn't picked me as his victim. Here are his graphs:

Attacking an Aggressive opponent in the Ancient Era isn't easy, even when they are as far behind as me. We'll see what he does.

A question for the lurkers: I played after Holland. Should I send him a message to let him know he has the turn before me? I'm fine waiting for him to play, but I thought it might be necessary if he happens to play late in the turn.

How do I get horses now? I could attack Ziankali, but I just sent him wheat for wheat.

Edit: Note that TLAFTW got a monument before a granary.

Edit edit: I haven't ended the turn because I need to go to war with either Ziankali or Aspi for horses, and I need to decide this turn if I'm quickly whipping axes to attack Ziankali. I did just send him the wheat for wheat, and he is much stronger than me.

Good point. Ziankali (and maybe Kreutzberg?) have open borders.
